Our Real Life More Dramatic Than Our Films: Karan

Our Real Life More Dramatic Than Our Films: Karan

Filmmaker Karan Johar, whose films are tagged as over-the-top drama, says that real life is more dramatic than what is seen in films.

"Let me tell you that in our real life there is more drama than our films. The drama in our films is still subtle. If you hear our real life stories, you'll
realise that we make very subtle stories. There is a lot of drama off-screen," the 40-year-old said.

Some of Karan films include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho, and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, among others.

Won't Accept Cuts That Mutilate Jism 2: Pooja Bhatt

Won't Accept Cuts That Mutilate Jism 2: Pooja Bhatt

Pooja Bhatt bold project Jism 2 is set to get a verdict from the Central Board of Film Certification Wednesday and the actress-turned-director says she won't accept any cuts that will alter her narrative.

"Verdict on Jism 2 Censors tomorrow (Wednesday). No way I am going to accept cuts that mutilate my film. But if the cuts work, shall be gracious," tweeted Pooja Tuesday night.

Jism 2 is a sequel to the 2003 film Jism, which was quite bold for its time. The new film is expected to be steamier with Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone in the lead role. (Stills: Sunny Leone in Jism 2)

Recalling the days when Jism underwent the censors' scanner, Pooja wrote: "Ten years ago when we 'censored' Jism, they cut out two shots that seem laughable in this day and age, but were considered provocative then.

"I accepted the two cuts on Jism 10 years ago because it did not mar our narrative in the least and frankly, made our edit far more aesthetic," she added.

Jism 2 also features Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh, and releases July 27.

Sana re-enters Bollywood with Johar`s `Student of the Year

Sana re-enters Bollywood with Johar`s `Student of   the Year

Mumbai: Making a mark in Bollywood as an eight-year-old cute and bubbly daughter of Shah Rukh Khan in Karan Johar `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai`, actress Sana Saeed has resumed her tryst with acting after 14 years in Johar film `Student of the Year`."I have a full-fledged role in the film. It is not a cameo. I play a high school hottie - Tanya. It is a second lead role," 23-year-old Sana told PTI.Sana made her debut in Bollywood with Johar`s `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai` (1998) as a child artist and shot to fame as Shahrukh daughter `Anjali` in the movie. She has now teamed up with Johar for his romantic comedy `Student of the Year`.Directed by Johar himself, the film marks the debut of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt daughter Alia Bhatt, David Dhawan`s younger son Varun Dhawan and newcomer Siddharth Malhotra.

"It was fabulous working with Karan after a gap of 14 years. When I shot for `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai` I was scared and even now while doing this film I was scared and nervous. But I must say he (Karan) made all of us comfortable," Sana said."When I went on sets...The team that was there during `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai` was almost same for this film as well. I felt really good when they recognised me. For this movie we had a young team and we had great fun," Sana said.
Post `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai`, she was also seen in films like `Badal` and `Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega` as a child artist. While studying in college, Sana also did TV shows like `Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na` and `Lo Ho Gayi Pooja Iss Ghar Ki`. "I did it (TV) when I was in college. I took it up because there were offers coming my way from TV," Sana said. With big Bollywood dreams in mind, she even thought of taking up acting course from New York. But destiny again made her join Karan bandwagon with `Student of the Year`.

"I was just thinking of doing an acting course from New York. But that is when I came across this film, I auditioned for it and got selected. This was something I had never expected. I am extremely happy that I am part of this film," the actress said

Aamir Khan To Shoot A Promo Song For 'Talaash'

Aamir Khan To Shoot A Promo Song For 'Talaash'

Mumbai: When news came about Aamir Khan's latest film with Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor being postponed, the rumour mills went into a frenzy speculating the probable causes. While a section of the press reported how director of the film Reema Kagti and Aamir had a fall-out, others spoke about him trying to push the release of the film to after 'Dhoom 3'.

Now, word is that the makers of this film are gearing up to shoot a promotional video towards the end of this month. With this song/video, the makers are trying to make a point that all is well among the members of the film and that the film will be releasing on November 30, as was originally scheduled."

Our source adds, "Reema and the crew are preparing to use it like the face of the film. The song will feature Aamir, Rani and Kareena Kapoor." The song will be composed by Aamir blue-eyed boy Ram Sampath. Our source also adds that all the three stars will feature in the same frame for the first time ever. The track will be choreographed by Bosco-Ceasar.

The Bol Bachchan actor feels that his audience might get offended if his film gets four or five stars

The Bol Bachchan actor feels that his audience might get offended if his film gets four or five stars

Over the years, Rohit Shetty films have become critic proof. Ever since he tasted blood with the first Golmaal film, he has been churning out blockbusters one after the other. His constant partner in crime has been actor Ajay Devgn. But for an odd Singham, that got mixed reviews, most of their films have been torn down by the critics. Their latest outing, Bol Bachchan, is no different. While the critics had a field day ripping apart their ‘tribute’ to Hrishikesh Mukherjee cult classic, Golmaal, the film has already made Rs 50 crore. Talking about the success of Bol Bachchan in a recent interview, Devgn said, “I was scared if we get four or five stars the audience might get offended. They might feel this is a very different film. What has gone wrong with Rohit Shetty?” Wethinks it is very smart of the Singham dude to say so, and we hope that he doesn’t end up erasing the memories of his powerhouse performances in Zakhm, Company, Omkara and Raincoat. Do you prefer Devgn in brainless entertainers or serious intense films?

We say this ‘coz we are tired of watching Bollywood 40-plus superstars chase pretty young things in miniskirts, sing ludicrous love songs and sock goofy goons in their faces. When are they gonna stop behaving like callow boys and become grown up men?
We wonder if Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and even perfectionist Aamir Khan are stuck in a time warp. If you look at the superstars’ recent movies, they are still playing roles that are close to the ones they did when they started out 20-something years ago! And it makes us wanna scream out loud: Why can’t Bollywood superstars strike a balancing act between playing 20-year-old loverboy and 40-year-old gentleman, just like George Clooney and Brad Pitt have done? While Hollywood hotties proudly show-off their age lines and graying hair, Bollywood biggest names hide time – or try to – by using the wonders of cosmetology and Photoshop!

In an interview to Bollywood Life during the promotions of Agent Vinod, we had a glimmer of hope when Saif Ali Khan said: “I can’t play a regular loverboy at 40. I want to play slightly older, mature characters now. Loverboys are for the younger lot to play. If I try to play a 20-year-old, I will look old. I want to look younger playing the right age.”

Ironically after making such a tall claim, we discovered that the Nawabi actor’s next film happens to be Cocktail - a love square involving two girls (Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty) and two guys (Saif and Randeep Hooda). Since he’s a father of two in real life, shouldn’t Saif be playing a father, or a character closer to that age group, and not a loverboy-playboy type these days?

Various other stars are guilty of such ridiculous acts. After two big disasters – RA.One and Don 2 – SRK has gone back to the genre that made him the superstar he is today. The King of romance’s forthcoming films, Yash Chopra’s untitled film opposite Katrina Kaif and Rohit Shetty Chennai Express, are full of the emotion called love.

Never mind that Rowdy Rathore set the cash registers ringing at the box office, but it was quite odd to watch the 40-plus, soon-to-be daddy for the second time Akshay Kumar act cheesy, goofy and run after a girl half his age (Sonakshi Sinha). Don’t you think so too?

As for Salman Khan, we thought finally he’d changed his heart and would do some hardcore action in Kabir Khan’s action thriller Ek Tha Tiger. After watching the film’s theatrical we realised the Brat Khan isn’t yet ready to give up those funny gags or perky punch lines or even wooing a beautiful woman onscreen with a little song and dance.

Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan are less guilty of getting stuck in the rut, but if you think of Singham repetitive stunts and Rancho act in 3 Idiots, you can’t help but tell all these fast-ageing superstars that it’s time to wake up before the coffee gets overdone and bitter! And let the real 20-plus newbie actors play 20-year olds onscreen.

Aamir Khan shows his support to friend and fellow actor Salman Khan for his film Ek Tha Tiger

Aamir Khan loved the promos of friend and actor Salman Khan’s film Ek Tha Tiger, and is looking forward to seeing the film. Aamir says that it will be successful at the box office.

Produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films, the romantic thriller will see Salman pairing up with Katrina Kaif. Directed by New York fame Kabir Khan, the film is set for August 15 release.

“I haven’t seen the film. But I liked the promos a lot and I think this will be a superhit. I texted Salman, Kabir saab and Adi (Aditya Chopra) that I liked the promos,” Aamir told reporters in Mumbai.

Ek Tha Tiger promos have been banned in Pakistan following allegations that the film portrays the neighbouring country’s intelligence agency ISI in a bad light. When asked about this, Aamir said: “I will see it for sure. But I don’t know why they are not showing it in Pakistan.”

Talking about a particular scene in the film where Katrina is telling Salman it’s high time he should get married, Aamir says he hopes his fellow actor pays attention to the suggestion in real life. He said: “We have been telling him to get married since a long time now. He didn’t listen to us. Maybe he will listen to Katrina.

Saif won’t marry Kareena on October 16th

Saif won’t marry Kareena on October 16th

The big fat wedding of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor which is scheduled to take place on October 16th has been post-postponed. The wedding date which has been confirmed by Saif mother and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore as well as Saif sister Soha Ali Khan has been deferred

Bollywood is gearing for the royal wedding but there has been a sudden change of plan. The much hyped wedding of Saif and Kareena has not yet been fixed as remarked by groom-to-be Saif Ali Khan.

The twist in the fairy tale wedding date came into forefront when the Chotte Nawab was asked about his impending wedding with Kareena. He said, “I haven’t fixed a date for my wedding! I’m yet to meet Kareena parents to sort out the date ... the venue is also not finalized,” and added, “It’s going to be a year-end wedding.”

When he was asked whether his former wife Amrita Singh and his two children Sarah and Ibrahim are happy with his decision of getting married to Kareena, he said, “Everyone is very happy.”

News of Kareena and Saif wedding has been doing the round for quite sometime. It is also heard that Kareena will wear Sharmila Tagore 43 years old wedding outfit (Sharara) on her D-day and Bebo has ordered 40 lacks necklace for her big day. It is also said that Bebo is busy shopping for her wedding.

Speculation is also ripe that Sanjay Leela Bhansali dropped Kareena from his film, ‘Ram Leela’ due to her married woman status.

Aamir Khan `Satyamev Jayate` season 2 likely next year

Aamir Khan `Satyamev Jayate` season 2 likely next year

Mumbai: Following the success of his debut television show `Satyamev Jayate`, Bollywood star Aamir Khan is keen on bringing its second season by next year.

Aamir, 47, made his debut on small screen with the social issue-based show, highlighting problems like female foeticide, dowry, inter-caste marriage and others.

"On an emotional level, I would want Season 2 of the show. Hopefully, by next year we should come up with next season," Aamir told reporters here.

"I remember few people telling me that this show is a social (one) and it will not work. But seeing the impact it has had....It has proved cynics wrong," he said.

Before the makers intend to go ahead with the second season of `Satyamev Jayate` they would carry out ground activity by taking people`s reactions about the show and gauge its impact in the society.

"Our research team will access the impact created by the show, go to different places take reaction of people. We need to understand what we had set out to do with this show have we actually achieved...Reached that mark.
All these things will consume two-three months," Aamir said.

"Also, we have a data ready where we have got responses about the show either through e-mails, text messages, phone calls or on internet medium...We are tracking all this," he said.

After `Satyamev Jayate` highlighted the menace of female foeticide, a number of state governments have woken up to the malice, the latest being Maharashtra.

In an attempt to curb female foeticide, the Maharashtra government is considering to slap charges of homicide on those involved in it. The state government intends to send a proposal to the centre to apply Indian Penal Code 302 (murder) on those involved including family members and medicos.

"It is an important issue. I am happy that they are thinking of this step. Abortion is legal in our country but sex selection is not and there should be a harsh punishment for it," Aamir said.

"Its not that due to our the show, that Maharashtra state government is taking this step. They have been working towards it for long, its just that may be they have got a boost as lot of people are with them in preventing this thing," he said.

It was in the first episode of `Satyamev Jayate` in May, where Aamir highlighted the issue of female foeticide.

"Lot of ministers called me saying they liked our show. And they are also getting pro-active and doing things," he said.

Anubhav Sinha, the director of Shahrukh Khan’s magnum opus RA.One has been caught in a scandal involving black money along with film producer Vashu Bhagnani

Bollywood’s big producer Vashu Bhagnani and director Anubhav Sinha have been caught red-handed in a sting operation conducted by a news channel while discussing deals about converting black money into white for their films. The duo has been closely associated for a very long time, having also worked on RA.One. While Vashu is a renowned Bollywood producer and financier, Anubhav Sinha directed Shahrukh Khan’s ambitious film. But does it imply that SRK was aware of the money laundering behind his back? We sincerely hope not, but we have to ask.

Writer-director Anees Bazmee was also caught on camera admitting the fact that money laundering is a norm in the film industry and that the three have been functioning in the rampant black market for the longest time. All three were seen talking to undercover reporters posing as investors. Their conversations have been taped and we see the dummy investors persuading the filmmakers to allow them to finance films in a way that would help them convert black money into white.

Are we shocked? Not really. But are we amazed that such high-profile individuals could be nabbed in such an ignominously easy way. Yes. Especially since the movies they made – RA.One, at least – are so hi-tech and complex!

Cocktail: Is Saif Ali Khan Bollywood only romantic hero?

Cocktail: Is Saif Ali Khan Bollywood only romantic hero?

New Delhi: Many feel that there is a similarity between ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and forthcoming movie ‘Cocktail’, but co-producer Dinesh Vijan denies it, saying that to ensure that the film has an individual identity; they opted for online medium to introduce it.

"We wanted the film to get its own identity and we went online in a big way. Our trailers went viral. The trailer caught on and the music has done well, which has worked in our favour and the film has promoted itself," Vijan, who co-owns Illuminati Films with Saif Ali Khan, told IANS.

Even though both films are love stories, they have nothing in common except for the team

"Someone recommended that these days all the sequels are doing so well, so why don't you call it 'Love Aaj Kal 2', so you will get a big opening. But I feel that there is no similarity. The only way you can call 'Cocktail' a 'Love Aaj-Kal' is because it is an 'aaj kal ki love story'. Other than that there is nothing similar," he told IANS.

Imtiaz Ali ‘Love Aaj kal  was a modern day love story told through the relationship between Saif and Deepika Padukone. Director Homi Adajania roped in the same lead pair along with debutant Diana Penty for his triangular love saga ‘Cocktail’.

Written by Imtiaz, the film, releasing Friday, also has Boman Irani and Dimple Kapadia.

"The team is same. But they have come together to tell a different story," said Vijan.

Bollywood is still relying on its 40 plus actors to play the romantic lead unlike Hollywood, which casts actors as per their age and appearance. Recently released ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is an apt example of it; the makers didn’t hesitate to replace the ageing Tobey Maguire with Andrew Garfield, but Bollywood has still not garnered that courage.

Despite a whole new bunch of actors coming into films, Saif Ali Khan remains one of the prominent actors of the romantic-comedy genre. In fact, the producer Dinesh Vijan went on to say in an interview with PTI that "The romantic comedy genre belongs to Saif, he can do such films with ease as his comic timing is phenomenal.”

Such situation just shows the lack of talent on part of the new actors. Older heroes can be easily accepted in the action genre, mainly because of the image they build over the years, but romantic-comedy is something that is associated with younger actors.

Shah Rukh Khan couldn’t play the quintessential lover boy anymore, Aamir has long left doing cheesy films and Salman Khan is all set to become the new Rajinikanth, so Saif is the natural choice as other prominent actors such as Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar were never seen fit for this category.

Saif good comic timing is his strength which satiates the need of a suave, cool guy who can make the girl laugh all the time, but his ‘ole ole’ days are gone. Contemporary filmmakers need to develop relatively younger breed into the typical lovers if the industry wants better actors to replace Saif Ali Khan. (With inputs from IANS)

The Rockstar actor is not playing a vampire in Bloody Veer, says producer Siddharth Jain

There were reports that Ranbir Kapoor will play a vampire in Bloody Veer, but the film’s producer Siddharth Jain denies this, saying they have not zeroed on anyone yet for the main lead

“Bloody Veer is a vampire film. The leading actor is not yet finalised. Ranbir Kapoor is not in the film, it was all media speculation,” said Jain. Bloody Veer will be directed by Heeraz Marfatia and the shooting will start next year.

Thanks to the changing scenario and flexibility, Jain claims he is not facing any problems in casting department. “We are in talks with various actors and many of them have loved the script. I am glad that now stars are open to do vampire films. I am not facing any hurdle to cast actors, like I had to face during the casting of my zombie film Rock The Shaadi,” he said, adding, “I believe the stars have more faith in our creativity (now).”

Describing Bloody Veer a Twilight kind of film that starred Robert Pattinson as the vampire, Jain said that he is looking for fresh faces who will become India’s first vampire actors. “We are looking for young stars that are ideal for the role and they will be the first vampires in our Indian cinema,” he said.

Kareena To Catwalk At LFW Finale

"Kareena walked for Manish Malhotra two seasons ago and we have shared the work with her. We are already working with her (for this season). Kareena is taking out time for that," Purnima Lamba, head (Innovations), Lakme, told IANS.However, Lamba says nothing is finalised for Kareena grand finale catwalk.

Lamba said: "I don't see there is any risk. The 10 WORST remakes in Bollywood

The 10 WORST remakes in Bollywood

Like it or not, remakes have existed for a long time.
Earlier filmmakers would quietly adapt films like Shree 420, Jab Jab Phool Khile or Khel Khel Mein into Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Raja Hindustani and Khiladi, to name a few.

Others blatantly ripped-off their overseas source. Like Ghost (Pyaar Ka Saaya), I Am Sam (Main Aisa Hi Hoon) whereas Heyy Babby borrowed liberally from Three Men and a Baby even as Zinda and Naina looked at South East Asian features like Old Boy and The Eye for scene-to-scene inspiration.

Again, our fetish for South Indian cinema is well-known. Mani Ratnam's Tamil classic Nayagan was the flash behind Feroz Khan's limp Dayavan whilst Priyadarshan has remade several Malayalam films in Hindi.

But with the world becoming a smaller place and copyright laws getting stringent by the day, buying rights to helm an official remake is the brand new trend.

Purists hate it, of course. In an industry dictated by box office numbers, however, this is of little consequence. And so no matter how much one condemns Bol Bachchan, Rohit Shetty's kitschy retelling of Hrishikesh Mukerjee acclaimed comedy Gol Maal, there will be more remakes.

Here's a look at 10 of the worst official remakes to precede the Ajay Devgn-Abhishek Bachchan starrer.

'Ek Tha Tiger' is not anti-Pakistan, says director

'Ek Tha Tiger' is not anti-Pakistan, says director

Mumbai: Director Kabir Khan is upset after 'Ek Tha Tiger' promos were banned in Pakistan following allegations that it portrays the neighbouring country's intelligence agency in a bad light. But he says this is a misconception and that his film is neither insensitive nor derogatory.

"I will say it once more... Ek Tha Tiger is NOT anti Pakistan....In this day and age, it's stupid to make films that are insensitive or derogatory to any country or community," Kabir tweeted.

The director, who earlier made 'Kabul Express' on post-Taliban Afghanistan and won critical acclaim for it, says that jingoistic films lead to such situations

"This is the price we have to pay because unfortunately our industry has made insensitive and jingoistic films in the past," he wrote.

According to reports, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the country`s media regulatory watchdog, has directed cable operators and satellite TV channels to refrain from airing promos/reviews of the movie till it is issued a no-objection certificate by the Central Board of Film Censors of Pakistan.

PEMRA alleges that the film shows the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI in a bad light.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, 'Ek Tha Tiger' features Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and will be released on August 15. Kabir Khan is confident that the film will be released in Pakistan.

"I am absolutely sure that once the censor board of Pakistan sees 'Ek Tha Tiger', they will be more than happy to show the film in Pakistan," he posted.

"I can assure the millions of fans of Salman in Pakistan that 'Ek Tha Tiger' will release in theatres in their country," he added.

Priyanka Chopra to replace Kareena Kapoor in 'Ram Leela'?

Priyanka Chopra to replace Kareena Kapoor in 'Ram Leela'?

Mumbai: Kareena Kapoor may have marched out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali upcoming romance film, but the filmmaker is yet not ready to hang his head in disappointment.

In fact, according to sources, he has bigger plans in place, the first step of which is to take lead actor Ranveer Singh on a trip to Gujarat to prep him for his role. Our source from the film says, "Bhansali is planning to take Ranveer to Gujarat in order to make him familiar with the place, where the film is set, apart from introducing him to the crew members."

With Bebo exiting the project, buzz is that Bhansali could be looking for a fresh face. And in case, the filmmaker decides to go with a tried and tested actress to cast as his Gujarati heroine, here’s looking at the timetables of some of our Bollywood actresses who could suit the part. But it looks like all of them have a rather choc-o-bloc schedule to start shooting next month.

Deepika Padukone: Deepika has the sequel of 'Race' in her kitty. She is currently shooting for her film opposite Ranbir Kapoor. And then she will start working on Chennai Express.

Anushka Sharma: Right now, she is shooting for her Yash Chopra project, post which she will do Raju Hirani’s next.

Sonam Kapoor: Sonam is currently working on Rakeysh Mehra next and will start work on 'Ranjhana'.

Katrina Kaif: The actress is shooting for Yash Chopra’s film opposite SRK. And then there is Dhoom 3 opposite Aamir Khan, apart from promotional activities around her spy thriller opposite Salman Khan.

Vidya Balan: Vids has 'Ghanchakkar' and 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects'.

Priyanka Chopra: PC could be Bhansali's only hope among A-list actresses. She has no other film apart from the remake of 'Zanjeer'.

Ajay, Rohit meet children from Smile Foundation

Ajay, Rohit meet children from Smile Foundation

Ajay Devgn who has given yet another successful film with Bol Bachchan has always been a hit not just with youth and families but with kids as well.

An example of his immense popularity amongst children was when Devgn and director Rohit Shetty spent their Sunday afternoon spreading some smiles amongst the underprivileged kids from 'Smile Foundation'.

The kids are a huge fan of Ajay Devgn and having loved the film, they have had a long standing wish to meet the star. So when Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty were in Mehboob Studios, the kids came all the way to meet them and presented a huge colorful card to the duo!!

We heard that Devgn and Shetty were extremely touched by their gesture and Ajay Devgn generously distributed tons of chocolates to the sweet kids, interacting with them for quite some time and taking photographs as well.

Gautam is an incorrigible flirt, while Meera, a pretty girl who wears Indian clothes and exudes Indian values, comes to London from Delhi for a fresh start, and Veronica is a party animal.

As three people living together, they all have a blast- until love happens! The perfect friendship turns confusing, and love becomes complicated.

Adajania says Imran Khan was his first choice for the film. "Saif was not the first choice. Imran was supposed to do it but he was not sure if he wanted to do it at that point of a time," Adajania told IANS.

Actors Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani feature in supporting roles. Explaining their presence in the cast, he said: "Dimple and Boman are also there in the film and it is not like they were in Being Cyrus so are part of this film as well. It is not a matter of familiarity but using talented actors who fit the bill."

Actor Randeep Hooda will be seen in a cameo. The film has already grabbed eyeballs for its ultra-modern styling by designer Anaita Shroff Adajania, and bagged a thumbs-up for its music, composed by Pritam Chakraborty.

Quirky song Second hand jawaani, with Saif, Deepika and Diana grooving together, has also gained popularity among music lovers.

Kareena Kapoor to catwalk at Lakme Fashion Week finale?

Kareena Kapoor to catwalk at Lakme Fashion Week finale?

/

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor is likely to walk the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) winter-festive 2012 runway at the grand finale to be jointly presented by designer Kallol Dutta and duo Pankaj Nidhi.

The forthcoming edition will be held here Aug 3-7. "Kareena walked for Manish Malhotra two seasons ago and we have shared the work with her. We are already working with her (for this season). Kareena is taking out time for that," Purnima Lamba, head (Innovations), Lakme, told IANS.

However, Lamba says nothing is finalised for Kareena grand finale catwalk. "At this point we haven't decided the prospect of it, but she (Kareena) is very excited to walk for us. So Kareena might be the showstopper," said Lamba. In the last season, veteran designer Rohit Bal presented an outstanding finale. But this time fairly new designers like Kallol Dutta and Pankaj-Nidhi are getting the chance.

Lamba said: "I don't see there is any risk. As somebody who has invested in the future of fashion, it is my responsibility to give them a voice...The concept of bringing fresh perspective to the finale was very exciting. So we were very thrilled to get them on board and they both have very individual takes on fashion."

Has Madhuri done more for dance than Saroj Khan?

Has Madhuri done more for dance than Saroj Khan?

Model-turned-actor Bhairavi Goswami gets vocal about the BMC land controversy regarding Madhuri Dixit-Nene dance academy

Madhuri Dixit-Nene has been in the middle of a controversy and the reason behind this is the issue of setting up a dance academy. Reports had recently claimed that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had identified 100 plots in the western suburbs for Madhuri's dance academy after the actor had expressed a desire to set up a multi-genre dance school.

This issue of allotting a plot of land to Madhuri had come under the scanner. Model-turned-actor Bhairavi Goswami, who had been in the news after her controversial remarks against Aishwarya Rai Bachchan pregnancy, took to microblogging to express her anguish.

"Madhuri needs free land to start a dance academy. BMC offers a list of 100 plots to choose from. Why? Has she done more for dance than Saroj Khan? What will be the cost of land allotted to Madhuri? Is the dance school justified? She will also teach a few 'gareeb' students free in a separate servant area," Bhairavi wrote on a sarcastic note.

The actor further went on to ask, "Why should BMC give away a land for free or as a subsidy, to someone who can easily afford it? In that case, why can't super models get free land to start grooming academy to teach English, to train ordinary girls become models? In fact, talents who are poor should be given these kinds of privileges. With due respect to Madhuriji, who is a living legend, I think she has done nothing good for the nation or state courtesy which she should be expecting huge favours in return!"

While Bhairavi was very vocal online and otherwise with her protest, recent reports suggested that BMC had clarified that no such action has been taken. "All the calls and interviews about land being allotted to Madhuri when she can fully afford it have been successful. BMC says they will not allot any land," Bhairavi wrote.

While the Madhuri controversy might have been sorted out, fact is there are huge number of celebs who keep on making requests to various governments to allot them free plots of land even when they can very well afford to buy them. If the issue is to actually do a service to the nation, wonder why musicians, actors and sportsmen don't generate money themselves to buy the plots of land without adding any financial pressure to the government. Is it a concern for philanthropy or an ego massage that makes them take the free-plot path?

Black money ‘sting’ shocks Bollywood

Black money ‘sting’ shocks Bollywood

Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: A fresh sting operation by a reputed media house might go on to validate the fact that black money is rampant in Bollywood. Bollywood’s three prominent filmmakers- Anubhav Sinha, Anees Bazmee and Vashu Bhagnani were caught on tape discussing the use of black money in the films made in Bollywood.

A reporter posing as an investor approached these three filmmakers and here’s what they had to say. The first sting on ‘Ra.One’ director Anubhav Sinha saw the film-maker assuring that the `investors` would surely "get a profit of 10 or 11 per cent". Vashu Bhagnani, one of the biggest producers of Bollywood, was seen saying, “The person (the investor) needs to be genuine. We should not get caught by income tax officials.”

Anees Bazmee, who has directed blockbusters such as ‘Ready’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and ‘Welcome’, was seen comparing black money in Bollywood with that in real estate. "When we buy a flat, if it costs Rs. 10,000 per square feet, we give cash on agreement that it costs Rs. 6,000 square feet only," said Bazmee, who met `the investor` at a Juhu Hotel.

Even as several filmmakers from the industry denied their involvement in any wrong dealings, industry veterans expressed shock on seeing known filmmakers openly talking about ways to launder black money.

Filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt said, “What I have heard from Vashu, it is shocking what we`ve seen. But the corporate structure has helped in evading black money.” Actor Kabir Bedi also expressed shock. "I am shocked by what I have seen, but I agree with Mukesh," he said.

While Bollywood defended itself, there were views from outside the industry which did highlight that black money is rampant in Bollywood. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani said, "Political money is an easier avenue for money laundering in our system."

Involvement of black money in Bollywood has been under the scanner for years now, but the real question is will this ‘dirty picture’ ever become a clean one?

Not worried about box office result: Deepika

Not worried about box office result: Deepika

Mumbai: Even as Deepika Padukone latest film Cocktail has garnered positive reviews for its music and look, the actress says she is not bothered about box office results.

"This film is very special to me. Personally it has been a journey for me as an actor as I have invested in this film physically, mentally and emotionally. I want people to enjoy and feel for the film as I do. I am not concerned about box office, I don't care how much money it earns," Deepika told reporters here.

The Homi Adajania-directed romantic comedy Cocktail stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and debutante Diana Penty, besides Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani. "For me money does not matter. I want people to enjoy the film. Critics and people enjoy it, in that case if the film earns money then its good," she said.

Cocktail is a story of three friends – Gautam (Saif), a flirt, Meera (Diana), a girl with desi values, and Veronica (Deepika) who is a bold and outspoken. The film is about how the friendship becomes confusing and love gets complicated. "The film is a journey of three friends of different personalities and then how love happens is a cocktail," Deepika said. Deepika was offered both the roles of Meera and Veronica but she chose to play the latter.

"This role was most challenging as I have come out of my comfort zone. I have taken a risk. When Dinesh Vijan (producer) asked me to pick up a role out of the two – Meera or Veronica. I thought I have already done something like Meera in Love Aaj Kal so why to repeat same thing, hence I chose Veronica. To play Meera would be similar and Veronica is new and challenging," she said.

'Bol Bachchan' among Top 20 films in North America

New York: Indian comedy adventure 'Bol Bachchan' starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan scored a terrific opening in North America generating the best debut this summer for any Bollywood film

Released by Fox International Productions, Rohit Shetty comic hit grossed $562,000 in its first three days beating the opening of Akshay Kumar 'Rowdy Rathore' by a remarkable 47 percent despite playing in fewer theatres, according to Boxofficeguru.com.

It also debuted bigger than 'Teri Meri Kahaani' starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. In addition, 'Bol Bachchan' more than tripled the opening weekend of the last Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn project 'Singham' which released in July of last summer.

The Hollywood Reporter remarked that Abhishek Bachchan gives 'one of his best performances to date' and that the film is filled with 'engaging performances and ever-spiraling hysteria.'

'Bol Bachchan' landed in the Top 20 at the North American box office and also scored a huge number one opening in India.

Ranbir Kapoor not in vampire movie 'Bloody Veer'

Ranbir Kapoor not in vampire movie 'Bloody Veer'

Mumbai: There were reports that Ranbir Kapoor will play a vampire in 'Bloody Veer', but the film's producer Siddharth Jain denies this saying they have not zeroed on anyone yet for the main lead.

"Bloody Veer is a vampire film. The leading actor is not yet finalised. Ranbir Kapoor is not in the film, it was all media speculation," Jain told IANS.

'Bloody Veer' will be directed by Heeraz Marfatia and the shooting will start next year

Thanks to the changing scenario and flexibility, Jain claims he is not facing any problems in casting department.

"We are in talks with various actors and many of them have loved the script. I am glad that now stars are open to do Vampire films. I am not facing any hurdle to cast actors as I had to face during the casting of my zoombie film 'Rock The Shaadi'," he said and added: "I believe the stars have more faith in our creativity."

Describing 'Bloody Veer' a 'Twilight' kind of genre, Jain said that he is looking for fresh faces who will become India's first vampire actor.

"We are looking for young stars that are ideal for the role and they will be the first vampire in our Indian cinema. It is a 'Twilight' kind of genre.

Aamir Khan gave the rights of his 'Delhi Belly' track 'Bhaag DK Bose' for free for Rohit Shetty film 'Bol Bachchan'

Aamir Khan gave the rights of his 'Delhi Belly' track 'Bhaag DK Bose' for free for Rohit Shetty film 'Bol Bachchan'

Mumbai: Aamir Khan gave the rights of his Delhi Belly track Bhaag DK Bose for free for Rohit Shetty film Bol Bachchan. Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan recent release begins with a 'Thank You Aamir Khan' credit.
In case if you are wondering what is Mr Perfectionist's contribution to a Rohit Shetty film no less, here is the answer... The makers were keen to include the song as they felt it was perfect for a musical sequence filmed on Abhishek.
Says a source, "They were told that Aamir holds the rights for the song. When the star was approached, he gave his consent immediately. But when the talk veered towards monetary compensation, he refused to be compensated for it."

Adds the source, "The copyright of the songs are usually held by music companies from which permission is taken before they are used. Otherwise there is a copyright infringement issue. For every song utilized, a royalty has to be given to them. But in Aamir case as the rights are with him, the royalty goes to him."
Rohit and Ajay were happy that Aamir willingly gave the right to use the song and refused to accept any royalty for it. The film's spokesperson confirmed that Aamir did not charge anything and the makers are thankful to him.
Was Osama killed while watching Sunny Leone video?

Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma says his “source” tells him he was!

Now this is really absurd, but Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma has claimed that his “source” has told him that Osama Bin Laden was watching one of Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone’s steamy videos before he was shot dead by US forces at his Pakistan hideout.

“Is it true tht osama hd a stack of sunny leone videos in his Abbotobad compound?,” Varma has tweeted, adding, “My source tels tht he ws wtchng hr vdo whn he ws shot dead.” [sic!]

It is not secret that Osama had a porn fetish – a Reuters report published last year confirmed that “a stash of pornography was found in the hideout of Osama bin Laden by the US commandos who killed him,” citing “current and former US officials.”

That the Al Qaeda leader’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, was stashed with porn is not a secret, but we wonder who this “source” is who told Varma the details of the video he was watching before US forces got to him?

Especially because, as the Reuters report of last year states, “a video released by the Obama administration confiscated from the compound showed bin Laden watching pictures of himself on a TV screen, indicating that the compound was equipped with video playback equipment.”

Well who knows who Varma “source” is – maybe the FBI should invite him for coffee to get further details?
Laila Khan disappearance case: Stepfather Parvez Tak remanded to police custody till July 19

Mumbai: A court in Mumbai has remanded Parvez Ahmed Tak, stepfather of Bollywood actor Laila Khan and a suspect in her disappearance case, to police custody till July 19. Tak was brought to the city from Jammu on Sunday night by the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police for questioning in connection with the case.

Tak has reportedly told the Jammu Police that Laila, who had been missing for 11 months, was murdered along with her mother, Celina, and other members of her family. During interrogation, he revealed that they were shot dead near Mumbai by three men who included Celina's second husband, a man named Asif Sheikh, and a man named Afghan Khan who was reportedly Laila lover. Tak was the third and current husband of Celina.

The Crime Branch, which is probing the disappearance of Laila and her family, had on Saturday secured permission from the Kishtwar court in Jammu to bring Tak to Mumbai. They have already arrested Sheikh who has confessed to having murdered Laila but want to question Tak to confirm the sequence of events in the case.
.

Laila biological father, Nadir Patel, has already filed a case of kidnapping at the Oshiwara police station against Tak and Shaikh. Patel was divorced from Laila mother, Celina.

Laila lived in a suburban Mumbai flat with her mother, three siblings, and another relative. They disappeared from their flat on February 7, 2011.  The Mumbai police says they were taken by her stepfather, Parvez Tak, to a farmhouse in the Nashik district. This was the last location traced through Laila cellphone records. A few days later, the farmhouse was set on fire.

The motive for the murder was allegedly the property owned by Laila and her mother. They owned two flats in Mumbai, and Celina's second husband and Laila boyfriend wanted to stop her from selling these apartments.

The Mumbai police says no body parts of Laila or her relatives have been found; they don't buy Parvez's account.

Laila co-starred with actor Rajesh Khanna in the movie "Wafa" which released in 2008.

The film's producer, Rakesh Sawant, was questioned by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad, about his funding and alleged links to terrorists

Madhuri Dixit visits the Taj Mahal, in disguise!

The actor paid a visit to the monument in Agra with her husband and two sons
Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit has confessed she hid her face during her recent trip to the Taj Mahal. “Here is me in disguise with the family at the Taj,” the 45-year-old tweeted. The actor who went to see the iconic structure with husband Dr Shriram Nene and their two sons Arin and Ryan, was dressed in blue jeans and a purple top. She covered her face with white scarf and sunglasses to hide her identity.

In 1999, Madhuri married Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon and moved to Denver, USA. After staying there for almost a decade, she has shifted back to Mumbai.

Post-marriage, she worked in Aaja Nachle, which didn’t do so well. But her stint as the judge on dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 gave her a chance to reconnect with her fans in a big way. She is now hosting the fifth season of the reality show and has also signed two movies – Gulab Gang and Ishqiya 2. She is also getting into film production.
Will 'Bol Bachchan' enter the Rs 100 crore club

Mumbai: Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have done it again. While their latest film rakes in the moolah at the box office, sources say that the numbers could well make it yet another Rs 100 crore earner.

And now Devgn is gearing up for his next big release, co-starring Sanjay Dutt, this Diwali. Arch-rival Shah Rukh Khan too will make his appearance at the marquee with his Yash Chopra's production on the same day. The actor however remains unfazed by the development and says he wishes to stay focused on his film.

Devgn says, "I am not taking on any Khan. My film is an entertainer and Diwali is the right time to release it. It is a complete masala film and I am least concerned about taking on anybody. I don’t wish to take on any one and I don’t think I am big enough to take on anyone. I am just concentrating on my film."

After working on eight films with Rohit Shetty, Rohit is working on his next with SRK. However, Devgn says he is happy about the development and says, "I wish his film does well. Rohit is not a director for me but he is like my younger brother and more than anything else I am happy that we are growing with each film. Rohit and I are planning something else, which we will announce soon."

On whether big numbers at the box office are not dependent on the Khans alone, the actor points out, "The numbers have increased as the business has increased. I don’t think that films with the Khans have always worked. Sab ki films pehle bhi chalti thi and ab bhi chalti hai. Earlier the silver jubilee was the barometer for a big film and now Rs 100 crore is the benchmark."

Finally, ask him how he feels on having his biggest opening ever with his latest film, and pat comes the reply, "I can only say that my chest has become blouse! After two Rs 100 crore films behind me, there was pressure but we used it to inspire us to work harder and deliver to the best of our ability."

Diana Penty quits ramp for Bollywood

In 2009, Diana Penty achieved a major milestone in her modelling career when she was made an official rampwalker at the New York Fashion Week. Besides the Big Apple, the Indian model has also walked the ramp in Paris. But now, as she readies for a Bollywood debut with Cocktail, she has decided to bid farewell to the ramp.

“I want to concentrate completely on films. And now that I am into it (Bollywood) in a big way, it makes sense to focus on it fully,” says Diana, who has also been the face of high-fashion website Bluefly, luxury store Neiman Marcus and brands such as Forever 21 and Nordstrom.

“I’d rather do one or the other (films or modelling), and do it well, by giving it my best shot. That’s the way to go about it. Also, if films are my focus and, hopefully things work out, then it will keep me really busy,” she adds with a smile. But what if an enticing offer comes along, to walk at New York Fashion Week for a big designer? “It really depends on the situation and offer, but honestly I haven’t thought of it,” says Diana with a laugh.

The Mumbai girl had also replaced her Cocktail co-star Deepika Padukone as the brand ambassador of Maybelline. We wonder if the two talked about it on the sets? “Not at all. It didn’t even come up. We share a great rapport,” she says.

Why do I need an item song, quips Asin

Why do I need an item song, quips Asin

Actor Asin is one of the few actors in Bollywood, who is yet to  do an item number. Ask the actor about it and she says that though not averse to doing such songs, she just doesn’t feel the need to succumb to the pressure of doing it. “First of all, I just don’t like that word. ‘Item’ is so derogatory, as if the actor is some commodity. And secondly, I don’t understand why an actor has to do any such song to add to the popularity. Will I be any less of an actor or more if I dance on any special song? I am not saying that I am averse to doing any such song, but I don’t see why I need to do one either?” quips Asin.

The actor, who was last seen opting for a rather hot western avatar in Housefull 2, has now donned a desi avatar in her recent release Bol Bachchan. Point it out and Asin reveals that it’s not just the outfits, it’s even fun doing roles that are so varied from each other. “That’s the best part of our jobs I think, you get to be so many different people,” she says. But ask her what she thinks is sexier and
Asin is quick to reply, “Both!” Elaborating further, she adds, “Even eyes can make you look sexy, so I don’t think that being sexy has anything to do with clothes at all. They may up the sexy quotient or reduce it, but they alone can’t make a person sexy. Skin show doesn’t always add to a person’s sex appeal, so I think Indian or western outfits, it all depends on how confidently you wear them and the attitude.”

While the actor’s quite clear about her own sexy attitude, we ask Asin about her attitude towards competition in films. “Yes, there’s immense competition if you look at it like a race and none at all, if you are looking at your own growth as an actor alone. But frankly, I’ve never let these numbers affect me. I didn’t let the success of my three 100 crore films get to my head and I’m not going to let any of the failures get to my heart. That’s how I’ve always lived and that’s how it will always be,” smiles Asin.

Bol Bachchan

Bol Bachchan

This week’s major Bollywood release “Bol Bachchan,” Hindi for “Talk Bachchan,” is a remake of 1979 Bollywood classic “Gol Maal,” widely regarded as one of the best comedies in Indian cinema.

Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgan, this comedy of errors traces the journey of meek orphan Abbas (Mr. Bachchan) who, in an attempt to hide his Muslim lineage, fools his new employer into believing he’s a Hindu named Abhishek Bachchan.

Chaos and confusion ensue when Abbas is spotted at a Muslim prayer meeting.

There were high expectations for the movie, given the reputation of “Gol Maal,” but it failed to live up to them in the eyes of most critics.

Here’s a roundup of what they had to say about “Bol Bachchan”:

“This one’s strictly for Bollywood junkies whose funny bones are easy to tickle,” NDTV’s film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote, adding that it was devoid of any “genuine comic highs.” He also labeled it as a complete “rip off” of the 1979 classic.

The performances of the star cast didn’t impress him either: “The acting is generally so unabashedly hammy that you might be forgiven for wondering whether you have wandered into a pigsty,” Mr. Chatterjee noted.

“Be warned…Bol Bachchan is a comedy so absurd that it could reduce you to tears of despair,” opined Mr. Chatterjee, who gave the movie  a paltry one-and-a-half stars out of five.

Rediff.com’s Sukanya Verma largely agreed, adding that classics like “Gol Maal” are “revered realizations that need to be preserved not tampered with.”

Director Rohit Shetty, she noted, “picks up all the major plot points of the original only to alter it with his boisterous, cheesy, slapstick and visually flashy sensibilities.”

Disappointed with the comedy’s “lackluster” dialogue and “silly” execution, the critic went on to highlight that the film is marred with offensive language, “numerous innuendoes, crude gestures and frequent suggestions of homophobia.”

The A-list star cast also failed to impress. With the exception of Archana Puran Singh and Mr. Bachchan, Ms. Verma was highly critical of the others, singling out Mr. Devgan for being “suitably gruff,” “goofy” and unbearable.

“Bol Bachchan is dispensable cinema, forgotten almost immediately after it’s over,” Ms. Verma wrote, giving the film two-and-a-half stars out of five.

“All talk, no substance,” is how critic Shilpa Jamkhandikar described the film on Reuters’ Bollywood blog India Masala.

“Unlike Gol Maal, which was intelligent comedy, free from slapstick and crass humour, Bol Bachchan caters to the lowest common denominator,” she wrote, adding that the film was botched by “a liberal dose of item songs, inane dialogue, and of course, exploding vehicles.”

While the critic was seemingly impressed by Mr. Bachchan “earnest” role, she dismissed Mr. Devgan “expressionless” performance.
